Jefferson School of Population Health
This innovative two-year post-doctoral fellowship offered by the Jefferson School of Population Health at Thomas Jefferson University is designed for pharmacists who are interested in pursuing an academic faculty career combining research and teaching activities. The program prepares Fellows for careers in academia by creating professionals who can apply their pharmaceutical knowledge to efforts to improve access to care, quality of care, and cost-effectiveness of care.
During the first and second years of the fellowship, the Fellow will work at the Jefferson School of Population Health (JSPH) at Thomas Jefferson University in Center City, Philadelphia. There, the Fellow will be assigned to manage specific outcomes research projects, and moving forward towards the second year, will take on an increased responsibility for developing, managing and completing projects aligned with their career interests. The Fellow will also have increased responsibility in the second year for teaching, course development, and gaining experience in federal, foundation and industry grant development and submission.
Fellows also have the opportunity to take courses and pursue a master’s degree at Jefferson in one of several disciplines, including Public Health, Healthcare Quality and Safety, and Health Policy. The School’s research agenda spans healthcare quality measurement and improvement, health services delivery and financing, health economics and outcomes research, disease management and managed care, community-based public health research, and delivery and evaluation of continuing professional education programs.

This two-year fellowship program, established in 1995, and offered in conjunction with Thomas Jefferson University, provides training and exposure to the various aspects of outcomes research in the academic and industrial settings. The program is structured to assist the Fellow in identifying future career opportunities in outcomes research while learning and working in a challenging post-graduate environment.
In year one of the program, the Fellow is educated on outcomes research methodology through project experience and didactic studies at Thomas Jefferson University. The Fellow participates as a member of the research staff at the Jefferson School of Population Health, designing and conducting projects, and disseminating findings through manuscript preparation and presentation at professional meetings.
In year two, the Fellow will work with the Outcomes Research Department at Janssen Scientific Affairs, LLC in New Jersey to learn how outcomes research is used to assess the value of therapeutic interventions. The Fellow will gain experience using clinical, economic, and humanistic data to support the research, development, adoption, and utilization of pharmaceutical products. The Fellow also interacts with other departments at JSA to learn how outcomes research generates evidence of the value of J&J products.

This innovative two-year post-graduate fellowship will provide the opportunity to conceptualize, implement, evaluate, and disseminate the results of medical device-related health economics and outcomes research. This fellowship program will expose the Fellow to the science of evidenced-based medicine, the global evidence requirements landscape, the tools and resources required for surgical healthcare decision-making.
In addition, the Fellow will gain research skills for evaluating the quality, safety, and cost of medical devices in the US marketplace as well as exposure to Health Technology Assessment and Market Access issues globally. Fellows also have the opportunity to take courses and pursue a master’s degree at Jefferson in one of several disciplines, including Public Health, Health Policy and Healthcare Quality and Safety. Graduates of the program will be well prepared for positions with medical device companies, broad health care delivery systems, payer and health technology assessment organizations.
The Fellow will be selected on a competitive basis from a national pool of candidates with scientific and/or clinical training in health care. Candidates must have scientific or clinical training in health care (examples include biomedical engineering, nursing, medicine, public health, epidemiology, health economics, pharmacy) and a stated interest in Health Economics and/or Outcomes Research. Individuals having completed relevant graduate coursework will be preferred.
The first year of the program will be based at Thomas Jefferson University and the second year will be at the Ethicon's headquarters in Somerville, NJ.

Endo/JSPH
This new two-year post-graduate fellowship has been designed for a student with the ability to work in the industry setting during both years of the program. The Fellow is expected to be on the Jefferson campus three days per month and spend his/her remaining time at Endo's Chadds Ford, PA facility.
The primary goals of this fellowship are to educate the Fellow regarding outcomes research and drug evaluation methodologies including economic, clinical, and patient-reported outcomes; to provide experience in designing drug evaluation therapies and other medical interventions; and to inform the Fellow on managed care and disease and health management principles and practices.
The Fellow is expected to participate in various applied outcomes research projects at Endo. The Fellow is expected to attend and participate in select activities with the Jefferson School of Population Health including faculty and curriculum development activities, educational seminars, research rounds, conferences, and special projects.
This fellowship is expected to provide the training and experience necessary for the Fellow to practice outcomes research in a pharmaceutical company, academic institution, managed care organization, or health care facility.
