Cardiovascular/Interventional Fellowship Training Program

The Cardiovascular/Interventional Division offers ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) accredited one- or two-year fellowship programs. Four positions are available each year through the NRMP (National Residency Match Program). Completion of at least one year of post-graduate clinical training and a radiology residency are prerequisites.

Training includes all aspects of Interventional Radiology, including arterial, venous and non-vascular diagnostic and interventional procedures. Clinical management is emphasized, and includes daily patient rounds with the attending staff, and a review conference. The division has it's own admitting service and operates an outpatient clinic with two physician's assistants, where uterine fibroid embolization, peripheral vascular, oncology, and vein sclerosis patients, among others, are evaluated.

A busy conference schedule includes didactic lectures on interventional topics, case presentations, monthly interventional and vascular journal clubs, and combined conferences with vascular surgery, oncology, gastrointestinal medicine, nephrology and other clinical specialties. Dedicated time is spent on non-invasive vascular imaging, assisting in abdominal and thoracic aneurysm stent-graft procedures, attending in clinic, and research.  An online teaching file is maintained by the fellows.

The two-year program is oriented toward applicants considering an academic career, and includes six months of dedicated research time. Research may include animal or clinical projects depending on the interests of the fellow. The longer training period also provides opportunity for additional experience in more sophisticated and emerging procedures.
