TJUH House Staff Policies/General Information
Accommodations
In addition to the Barringer and Orlowitz residences on campus, there are numerous apartments and small homes available in the neighborhood of the hospital. Both Pennsylvania and New Jersey suburbs are also readily accessible via excellent transportation systems. Housing information can be obtained through the Housing Information Service, Room 109 Orlowitz Building. For more information, please call 1-215-955-7665.
House Staff Association
Each resident is a member of the House Staff Association, which is part of the Medical Staff Organization. The association has its own elected officers and delegates who represent the interests of the house staff as active voting members on important hospital committees.
In addition to the academic pursuits, social events are planned by the House Staff Entertainment Committee, and occur throughout the year to help spread the "Jefferson spirit." The association also attempts, when possible, to assist in solving problems of the house staff, such as housing and short-term loans to meet the immediate needs of the residents while at Jefferson. For more information, please call 1-215-955-6610.
It is the institutional policy of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital not to promote trainees to the PGY-3 level until they have successfully passed USMLE Step III testing. Candidates matched to the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation program are highly encouraged to complete this testing during their PGY-1 year.
