Fellowship

The Clinical Fellowship program is a two year ACGME accredited program. First year Fellows are predominantly involved with the clinical practice of rheumatology including inpatient consultation service and outpatient clinics. Rotations through sports medicine, dermatology, rehabilitation medicine, pathology, pediatric rheumatology, immunology lab, musculoskeletal radiology and ultrasonography begin during the first year and continue into the second. During the first year of fellowship, fellows attend a comprehensive EMG conference and an extensive review course introducing fellows to all aspects of clinical research.

Three rheumatology lectures are held weekly. The lectures feature invited speakers of national and international reputation and include core lectures, immunology review lectures, basic science lectures, radiology conferences, case management discussions and a Journal Club. A periodic Bone Club lecture takes place in collaboration with the divisions of nephrology and endocrinology.

An in-service exam from the American College of Rheumatology takes place on a yearly basis.

During the second year of the fellowship the fellow has the same clinical responsibilities with the outpatient clinics, but has fewer responsibilities with the inpatient consultation service. During the second year there is an emphasis on clinical and/or basic research.
