The Division of Rheumatology provides resources for educational, research and patient-care programs for the Department of Medicine. Educational programs are offered at undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels and include a fully accredited fellowship program. A clinical rheumatology conference is held weekly and a research conference held in collaboration with the Jefferson Institute of Molecular Medicine is held weekly. The clinical conferences feature invited speakers of national reputation, case management and review conferences, x-ray reviews and a Journal Club.

The staff teaches residents bursa, tendon sheath and joint injection and aspiration techniques, as well as crystal identification in synovial fluid. In addition to outpatient experience, resident responsibilities include inpatient consultations and attending rounds.
The division operates an Arthritis Center, which utilizes a team approach to the treatment of arthritis. The programs include a scleroderma center, a lupus center, a Sjogren's Syndrome center, a lupus pregnancy center, an osteoporosis center and a general rheumatology and arthritis center that serves about 3,600 patients a year.
The Osteoporosis Center is operated in conjunction with the endocrinology and gynecology services.
