| Course Description |
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training course is designed to prepare participants to provide basic emergency medical care to sick and injured patients. EMTs perform skills such as patient assessment, bandaging, oxygen administration, splinting and spinal immobilization. EMTs provide medical care an a variety of settings, including hospitals, emergency ambulance services, non-emergency transport services and other public safety settings such as police, fire departments and security agencies. The EMT program is approximately 250+ hours in duration and consists of lectures, hands-on practical demonstrations and field clinical time in a hospital. Students are required to take written and practical examinations during the course to demonstrate their ability to provide proper emergency care. Upon successful completion of the JeffSTAT EMT course, students will be eligible to take the State written and National Registry Psychomotor Skills practical examinations. Upon passing these examinations, students will receive certification as an EMT from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. This certification is valid for three years. THE FIRST TWO DAYS OF THE COURSE WILL BE AHA HEALTHCARE PROVIDER CPR CERTIFICATION FOR NEW PROVIDERS AND RECERTIFICATION FOR CURRENT CARD HOLDERS These items are available at the Jefferson Bookstore. The online registration fee of $150 reserves a position in the roster. This fee is non-refundable. The fee is transferable to a later class for 6 months only. Registrations older than 6 months past the original class registered for will be closed. Registering for another class beyond that time will require another registration fee. Upon registration the registrant must contact denise.bolden@jeffersonhospital.org at the training center and schedule your placement test. The deadline for completion of the placement test is 4 weeks prior to the start of class. IF YOU HAVE A COLLEGE DEGREE AND BRING IT IN FOR YOUR SCHEDULED PLACEMENT TEST APPOINTMENT, YOU WILL BE EXEMPT FROM TAKING THE PLACEMENT TEST!! YOU WILL STILL HAVE TO COME IN TO FILL OUT PAPERWORK AND GET YOUR INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR PURCHASING YOUR SUPPLIES, UNIFORM, ETC. . Upon sucessfull completion of the placement exam you will be instructed on the purchase of your course materials and uniform. Bundle from the book store includes Textbook, Workbook, Penlight, Pocket Mask, & Uniform Patch. This must be purchased before your uniform fitting in order to receive the patches for your uniform. In addition, students are required to provide their own personal stethoscope. The uniform cost is $55-80 and includes a shirt, pants, and web belt. Uniform or duty shoes ar also required at additional cost. You will be required to attend the CPR course scheduled for the first two days day of your course regardless of your certification status, attendence is mandatory. . The duration ot the Full-Time Day EMT-B course is 16 weeks, every Monday, Tuesday , Wednesday , and Thursday. Course tuition is $1500. The first installment will be $ 500 and is due prior to the start of the first day of the course. Failure to pay the first installment will prohibit you from attending this session. You will be directed to see the administrative assistant and register for another course. You will be required to purchase a Jefferson Photo ID the first week of class at a cost of $15 which is included in the bundle price. The second installment of $500 is due no later than the 5th Monday of the course. Failure to pay tuition by the due date will result in expulsion from the course on that day. The third installment of $500 is due no later than the 10th Monday of the course. Failure to pay tuition by the due date will result in expulsion from the course on that day. Postponing attendence: Registrants that find that they must postpone class and would like to be placed in the following class roster must notify the training center in writing no later than the same Monday 2 weeks prior to the beginning of class. Failure to notify the center by that time will result in deletion from the file and loss of registration fee. Subsequent registrations will require another registration deposit. |
