The Emergency Vehicle Driver Training (EVDT) Course is designed to provide ambulance operators with the knowledge and skills necessarily to safely operate an ambulance in emergency and non-emergency mode. The Pennsylvania Department of Health requires that all ambulance operators take this course prior to driving an ambulance. Topics covered include legal aspects of ambulance operations, navigating and route mapping, driver roles and responsibilities, basic driving skills and proper driving procedures. The course is 16 hours in duration and is held over a two-day weekend. The first day of the course is in the classroom. The second day of the course includes hands-on ambulance driving on a course. Ambulances are provided. If you wish to qualify in apparatus other than ambulance you must provide the equipment. Qualifying participants will receive 16 hours of Pennsylvania continuing education credits upon successful completion of the course.
