In 1994, the United States Department of Transportation (US DOT) revised the national standards for Emergency Medical Technicians. These changes were to take effect with all new EMT training courses. In an effort to provide a way for previously certified Pennsylvania EMTs to upgrade to the new curricula, the Pennsylvania Department of Health authorized an EMT Transition course designed to address the changes in the new US DOT curricula.
The EMT Transition Curse includes an Overview of EMS Operations, Medical and Trauma Assessment, Automatic External Defibrillation, Advanced Airway Control, EMT-B Assisted Medication Pharmacology, Shock Management, Oxygen Administration, Extrication, Hazardous Scene Control, Interactive Communication With Physician, Medical Control, Documentation and Record Keeping.
Currently certified EMTs needing continuing education credits to maintain their certifications may also take the course for a total of 24 hours of continuing education credits.
The fee includes 24 hours of review through lecture and practice skills.
