JeffSTAT Service Types
- Helicopter

- Through a partnership with Air Methods, Inc., the largest provider of air medical transport services in the world, JeffSTAT provides helicopter transport services to high acuity patients in need of rapid transportation for tertiary care. JeffSTAT uses an IFR, twin-engine, EC135 helicopter, capable of accommodating two patients and flying at speeds of to 150 mph. The helicopter's are based at the Sterling Aviation Heliport on Columbus Boulevard and the Delaware River and can respond rapidly to interfacility and scene transport requests in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. The helicopter's are dispatched and tracked by LifeCom, a remote communications center in Omaha, Nebraska.

- Specialty/Critical Care Transport

- High acuity patients requiring specialized medical equipment and therapies such as
hemodynamic monitoring, fetal monitoring, mechanical ventilation, and intravenous
medication therapy, mandate the presence of a specialty/critical care transport team. Examples
of calls classified as specialty/critical care transports include a stroke patient receiving
thrombolytic therapy, an acute spinal cord injury patient receiving steroids, and a
patient with a cerebral hemorrhage who has an ICP drain and arterial line in place. The team is comprised of a Registered Nurse (R.N.), and an
Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (EMT-P), both of whom provide care to the
patient, and an Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) who drives the ambulance.
Medical equipment carried on-board the specialty/critical care transport ambulance includes:
- Zoll CCT cardiac monitor/defibrillator/external transcutaneous pacer with capnography and invasive monitoring capabilities
- Pulmonedic mechanical ventilator
- IVAC Minimed System III infusion pumps
- Philips fetal heart monitor
- Intubation and airway management equipment
- Intravenous access equipment and fluids
- Medications
- Spinal immobilization equipment
- Pediatric and neonatal resuscitation equipment
- Radio equipment for contact with physicians at the hospital
- Ventricular assist devices and intraaortic ballon pumps are added to the ambulance as necessary
- Isolettes and nitric oxide are are added to the ambulance as necessary
- The specialty/critical care transport team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Advanced Life Support (ALS)
- Patients of moderate acuity requiring telemetry monitoring, intravenous medications, or intravenous fluids require an ALS transport team. Examples of calls classified as ALS include an
asthmatic patient experiencing dyspnea who is receiving continuous mini-nebulizer
treatments, a pediatric patient with a fever and dehydration receiving intravenous fluids,
and a patient receiving IV Nitroglycerine and Heparin who is being transported for a cardiac
catheterization. The ALS transport team is comprised of a Pennsylvania certified Paramedic
and an Emergency Medical Technician - Basic/driver.

- Basic Life Support (BLS)

- A basic life support (BLS) transport is a scheduled non-emergency transport between a
hospital, nursing home, rehabilitation facility, physician's office, patient's residence,
or outpatient facility and another location. Examples of calls classified as basic life
support transports include: a non-ambulatory patient being discharged from the hospital to
a private residence, a non-ambulatory patient being transported from a rehabilitation
facility to outpatient radiology for x-rays, or a patient with a suspected hip fracture
who is being admitted directly to the emergency department. The BLS crew is comprised of
two Emergency Medical Technicians.
- Basic life support transport teams are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

- Paratransit Services

- Paratransit van transportation is available for those patients who are wheelchair-bound,
or are able to walk, but require assistance when moving. The paratransit vans
provides non-emergency transportation between hospitals, outpatients facilities operated
by a hospital, physician's offices, and a patient's private residence. The
paratransit van is equipped with a wheelchair lift and is capable of accommodating
several passengers at one time. Each van is staffed by a paratransit driver.
- Special Event Emergency Medical Services

- JeffSTAT provides emergency medical services coverage at major sporting events,
community activities, and conventions in the Delaware Valley. ALS
and BLS crews standby at these events and provide emergency care to event participants or
spectators. Some of the past events JeffSTAT has participated in include the Advanta
Tennis Tournament, the Philadelphia Marathon, the Schuykhill Regatta, Philadelphia
Distance Run, the Broad Street Run, and the MS 150 Bike Tour. JeffSTAT is able to provide medical support for events of almost any size.

On-Campus Emergency
- The on-campus emergency transport team provides emergency medical services coverage to
the campuses of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Thomas Jefferson University.
When summoned for an emergency call, the team responds to scene, assesses the
patient, provides emergency care and stabilization, and transports the patient to the
emergency department of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for evaluation by a
physician. The ambulance is staffed by a Registered Nurse or Paramedic and an Emergency
Medical Technician - Basic / Driver.
- The on-campus emergency transport team responds to emergency calls 24 hours a day.
