Orientation & Training for Animal Researchers

All personnel who plan to work with laboratory animals must be appropriately trained. This web site provides a list of requirements and its associated links are good starting points for guidelines related to animal research.

Facility Orientation. New investigators, technicians and students must receive orientation by staff of Laboratory Animal Services (LAS) prior to receiving authorization to work in the animal facilities.

Hands-on Technique Training.  The Office of Animal Resources (OAR) will provide technical training related to various biotechniques and animal research methods on request. The IACUC may be used as an information resource on issues related to animal research at TJU.

Laboratory Training & Forms.  The Principal Investigator is responsible for providing training for all staff working on his or her protocols. Animal researchers must have training records on file with the IACUC before conducting work on any protocols. This is the RO-4 Animal Utilization Form (Word).

Online Training. In addition to Facility Orientation and Biotechniques training, all new Investigators and Support Personnel are required to take online training courses. Please refer to the online training policy (Word) for details about how to access the online training courses and what courses are required to be taken.
