Thomas Jefferson University’s Hazardous Materials and Environmental Health Program is committed for ensuring the safe use and transport of hazardous materials within the university.   The University aims to reduce risks that could potentially harm the public and environment by ensuring that all employees have the proper training, information, and equipment needed to work safely when using certain chemicals and other hazardous materials.

Roles & Responsibilities

Hazardous Materials

  • Collecting and coordinating the disposal of all chemical wastes
  • Recycling unwanted chemicals through the chemical redistribution
  • Training employees in proper disposal practices

Industrial Hygiene

  • Monitor levels of wastes anesthetic gases
  • Noise evaluations
  • Indoor air quality investigations
  • Asbestos concerns
  • Chemical exposure monitoring
