Program Options

Students have a variety options for completing their Bachelor or Master of Science. Each program is offered in three specialty area majors:

Options for High School Seniors

2-Year Plan a College Education (PACE) Program

Program Length

2 years at a partner college (55 credits)
2 years at Thomas Jefferson University (full-time)

High school students who want to assure their admission to our Bioscience Technologies Program can apply to the Plan a College Education (PACE) Program in their senior year of high school.

PACE students first attend any accredited college or university of their choice for two years to complete their prerequisites and liberal arts education. Each student who maintains an appropriate GPA in this time then transfers into our 2-Year Bachelor of Science Program.

Although PACE students are already admitted to the Program, they must apply to their major of choice the year before entering our Program.

2 academic years (full-time)

About the Program

High school seniors who are committed to earning a Bachelor of Science (BS) and Master of Science (MS) in Bioscience Technologies can apply to one of our partner institutions—Immaculata University or Penn State Abington—and spend three years there working toward a bachelor’s degree.

As long as all required coursework is completed, students will then transition to Thomas Jefferson University, where they will complete the MS degree in 2 years.

2-Year Option Bachelor's

About the Program

This is the traditional track for students seeking a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Bioscience Technologies. Students enter Thomas Jefferson University for upper-division study after completing prerequisite coursework at another school.

1-Year Option Bachelor's

Program Length

3 prior years of specific prerequisite coursework (70 credits)
1 year (12 consecutive months, full-time)

Students seeking a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Bioscience Technologies can enter Thomas Jefferson University for upper-division study after completing prerequisite coursework at another school.

The 1-Year Option allows students with three prior years of specific prerequisite coursework to earn a BS in one calendar year of full-time study.

About the Program

Students seeking a Bachelor of Science (BS) and Master of Science (MS) in Bioscience Technologies can enter Thomas Jefferson University for upper-division study after completing prerequisite coursework at another school.

The Combined BS/MS option allows students with three prior years of specific prerequisite coursework to earn a BS and MS in two calendar years of full-time study.

Accelerated Professional Master's

Program Length

12 consecutive months of full-time study

About the Program

This one-of-a-kind program offers specific technical and managerial competencies for employment in biotech, clinical and/or anatomic pathology laboratories. The Program is designed for students who:

  • Have a BS in a field other than laboratory sciences/bioscience technologies
  • Have a BS in one laboratory science program, but want to study another practice area
  • Plan to apply to medical or other doctoral programs and want to gain additional academic and practical experience

Advanced Master's

Program Length

Part-time (recommended): 5 semesters (2 years)
Full-time: 3 semesters (12 consecutive months) 

About the Program

Students seeking leadership positions in laboratory management, education and research can earn an advanced MS in bioscience technologies, through either full- or part-time study. The Program is tailored to each student's unique interests and professional goals.

Students must have a BS or a post-baccalaureate certificate in a laboratory field of biotechnology, cytogenetic technology, cytotechnology or medical laboratory sciences. Other laboratory professionals may be eligible, based on training and experience.
