Benefits Eligible Employees

Benefits Change Procedures

  • All life events must be reported within 30 days of the event date.  If a life event is not reported within 30 days a change may not be made until the next annual open enrollment (with benefits effective the following January 1).
  • Life events include:  Change in marital status or domestic partner status (marriage, death of a spouse, divorce, legal separation or annulment; dissolution of domestic partnership); Change in the Number of dependents (birth, adoption, placement for adoption, or death of a dependent); Change in employment or benefit status (termination or commencement by the employee, spouse or dependent); Change in Work schedule (reduction or increase in hours of employment of the employee, spouse or dependent affecting benefit status including a switch between part-time and full-time); Dependent change in eligibility (dependent either satisfies or ceases to satisfy the requirements for coverage due to attainment of certain age or other such requirements under the plan; a change in the place of residence or work of the employee, spouse or dependent).

Qualifying Life Event Benefit Change Process

  1. For marriage, birth or adoptions, employees will access the benefit enrollment site through Employee Self Service to make the change. Please follow below instructions.
    • Be prepared with names, dates of birth and social security numbers of dependents
    • Select Birth/Adoption or Marriage
    • Follow the prompts on the screens to enter your dependent data
    • In addition to reviewing and changing your benefits, you can review and update your personal information, tax information, direct deposit and voluntary deductions
  2. For divorce, death of a dependent or change in dependent coverage, contact the HR Service Center (3-HRSC) to initiate the change.
  3. Gather the acceptable documentation:

  2. Remember to review and update if necessary your life insurance beneficiaries. You can do this any time through Employee Self Service by selecting "Benefits," then "Insurance Summary."
