About Jeff IT

Jeff IT is Thomas Jefferson University’s central information technology organization, providing infrastructure, applications, and services that support academic, research, clinical, and administrative activities.

Since its creation in 2001, Jeff IT has worked to integrate and improve the IT systems and services provided to its user community of TJU faculty, staff, and students.  Partnering with and building upon the infrastructure level networking and data center services provided by the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Information Services Group, Jeff IT is organized around the following functional areas:

Client Services.  This group provides PC and desktop support and purchasing.  Elements consist of the Service Desk; hardware and software purchasing and set-up, general consulting; training and education; and remote desktop management, security, and maintenance.

Enterprise Applications.  Jeff IT manages campus-wide administrative, clinical, and academic systems for its clients.  Some of the larger systems include the PeopleSoft Human Resources and financial systems; the Banner student information system; the Touchworks electronic medical record application; the IDX patient management system; the Kronos time management application; and a variety of other reporting and departmental systems.

Infrastructure Services.  Infrastructure services consist of the administration and management of services (Windows and Linux), email services (JeffMail), directory services (LDAP and Active Directory); systems level operations and programming; and utility, back office and foundation services involving wired and wireless networking, monitoring, security, and incident management.

Electronic Medical Records.  JUP EMpoweR, (Jefferson's EMR), initiative combines a well-planned infrastructure, effective practice operations, and specialty-specific, best-practice workflows with a modular phase-in of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) to create clinical-setting efficiencies that improve patient safety and quality of care.

Physician Application and Systems Services.  GE Centricity Business, (formerly IDX/Flowcast), Jefferson University Physicians (JUP) and affiliated MSO providers' centralized practice management system, supporting billing, scheduling, and patient registration.
