Wired/Wireless Network Access Agreement

This agreement defines (a) the scope of networking services provided by Thomas Jefferson University (Jefferson); (b) required student activities, (c) the computer related activities that the Jefferson network is designed to support; and (d) prohibited uses of the Jefferson network.

By signing this agreement, you are agree to the following:

  1. Not to simultaneously connect with any other network, while connected to Jefferson wired/wireless network.
  2. Not to connect any game systems/multimedia systems/network devices (other than your PC or MAC) to the Jefferson wired/wireless network.
  3. To have traffic monitored and logged for the purposes of (a) maintaining the integrity and security of the University's network infrastructure and information assets; and (b) collecting information to be used (i) in network design, engineering, troubleshooting, and usage-based accounting and (ii) to comply with the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
  4. That normal hours of support for the Jefferson wired/wireless network are Monday –Friday from 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. and that only limited Jefferson wired/wireless network support for major network outages, mass login failures is provided outside of normal hours of support.
  5. To only access the World Wide Web, E-mail services, Instant Messaging services, FTP servers and Multimediawebsites that do not violate United States laws, third party rights or University policies.
  6. To supply either a wired or wireless network card (Internal, PC, USB) that will support the 802.11G network protocol, WPA-Enterprise or WPA2-Enterprise, and PEAP Authentication. Additionally,
    1. Jeff IT will only configure wireless network settings on PCs/Mac running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Apple OS X;
    2. Jeff IT is only responsible for the configuration of wireless network cards according to manufacturer directions. Any computer related issue beyond configuring the wireless network card to access the University wireless network is your responsibility. When initially connecting or just after connecting to the Jefferson wired/wireless network, certain computer issues may arise that are beyond the scope of Jeff IT support, which could require you to contact the computer manufacture for support;
    3. You must ensure that a sufficient backup of all essential data was performed prior to Jeff IT configuring your computer to connect to the Jefferson wired/wireless network.
  7. To "maintaining a healthy PC", which means the following:
    1. Keeping current with supported Antivirus and Anti-Spyware utilities.
    2. Updating (Operating System, Antivirus, and Anti-Spyware) and Scanning your computer from time to time.
    3. Being aware of downloading items on the internet (Anything that requires you to agree or checking off you should be paying close attention to)
    4. Making sure a browser pop-up blocker is enabled.
  8. To self-policing computer password and access codes, which means, changing passwords and access codes on an as-needed basis.
  9. To conduct regular backups of your computer(s) connected to the Jefferson wired/wireless network.
  10. To follow all local, state, federal, and internationals laws, including but not limited to intellectual property (Copyright, Trademark and Patents).
  11. To follow all applicable University policies and procedures, including but not limited to, sexual harassment, academic dishonesty, scientific misconduct, non-discrimination, copyright, intellectual property, and electronic communication.
  12. To not engage in any of the following prohibited uses of the Jefferson wired/wireless network:
    1. Disguising or attempting to disguise the identity of the account or machine being used. This includes but is not limited to spoofing IP addresses, impersonating any other person or entity, or misrepresenting affiliation with any other person or entity.
    2. Initiating or participating in unauthorized or personal mass mailings to newsgroups, mailing lists, or individuals (including but not limited to chain letters, spam, floods, and email bombs).
    3. Sharing, an authorized user or network account.
    4. Using or attempting to use an authorized user account or network account that was not assigned to you by Jefferson.
    5. Conduct constituting wasteful use of Jefferson wired/wireless network resources or which unfairly monopolizes Jefferson wired/wireless network resources to the exclusion of others.
    6. Engaging in computer crimes, other unlawful acts or other activity prohibited within this agreement or in applicable Jefferson policies.
    7. Interference or degradation of controls and system security, including wires, access points, and any other network infrastructure equipment.
    8. Using any Jefferson resource, including e-mail or other means to intimidate, insult, embarrass, and harass others; to interface unreasonably with an individual’s work, research or educational performance; or to create a hostile or offensive working or learning environment.
  13. That any abuse of the Jefferson network may result in the revocation of Jefferson wired/wireless access privileges and will trigger a report to the appropriate Student Affairs representatives.
  14. That Jefferson is not responsible for any hardware damage, software damage, or data loss when providing support to students.
