Working Offline for Home Users

To make sure that important files are always available offline, they should be marked as such. You must be connected to your JeffShare Drive to select files and folders to be available offline. Then you will need to select the files that you want.

In Windows Explorer, right-click on each file or folder that you want to be available offline. From the shortcut menu that appears, click on ‘Always Available Offline’ as shown in the screen capture to the right.

Prior to working offline, you should ensure that all open files are saved and closed. Then double-click on the Xythos Drive icon in the system tray.

The Xythos Drive dialog box will open. Click on the ‘Disconnect’ button.

You will be asked to confirm your action. Click on the ‘Yes’ button.

Several informational pop-ups will occur. You will then see the Xythos Drive dialog box again. Click on the ‘Work Offline’ button.

Your Xythos Drive dialog box should now appear as below. Notice the red ‘x’ on the drive icon
in the ‘Drive’ box.

You may close the Xythos Drive dialog box by clicking on the ‘Close’ button. In addition to the files marked “Always Available Offline” any files that have been opened recently will be available when you are offline as long as the local cache has not been cleared. To make sure that important files are always available offline, they should be marked as such by the above procedure. You will notice that, even though you are working offline, your JeffShare Drive will still appear and be available in Windows Explorer and Applications.

If you cannot tell if a file has been marked for offline availability, you will need to show that in the details section of Windows Explorer. See instruction document “Showing JeffShare Status in Windows Explorer” for details.

Prior to working online, you should ensure that all open files are saved and closed. To work online again, double-click on the Xythos Drive icon in the system tray.

The Xythos Drive dialog box will open. Click on the ‘Disconnect’ button.

You will be asked to confirm your action. Click on the ‘Yes’ button.

Several informational pop-ups will occur. You will then see the Xythos Drive dialog box again. Click on the ‘Work Online’ button.

Serveral informational pop-ups will be seen. When they close automatically, you will be online again and have access to all of your files and folders on your JeffShare drive. You may now close the Xythos Drive dialog box by clicking on the ‘Close’ button.

You may, at times, be prompted for a username and password. Simply use your campus key and
password if this occurs.
