Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine

Pulmonary & Critical Care Division is one of 11 divisions in the Department of Medicine (DOM) at Thomas Jefferson University. The DOM is the largest department with 182 full time faculty and over 400 voluntary faculty in various affiliates. The department has an active ACGME approved IM training program with over 125 residents, 25% of whom are graduates of Jefferson Medical College. The clinical program of the DOM is extensive with over 8227 in-patient admissions and over 147,973 outpatient visits. The research activity in the DOM is substantial with over $20 million in extra-mural funding, ranking the department in the top quarter of all medicine departments in NIH funding.

Jefferson Medical College was established in 1824, and is one of the largest private medical schools in the United States with the largest alumni network. The center city Philadelphia urban campus is conveniently located in a three block area between 9th and 11th streets and Locust and Chestnut. In response to anticipated changes in the delivery of health care in the US, JMC practice plan with over 500 physicians and the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital with 957 beds have announced a realignment and further integration. The hospital serves as a major tertiary care referral center for the Delaware Valley and as a Level I Trauma Center has over 45,000 admissions annually. Based on NIH funding of $60 million in 2009, TJU is ranked #39 out of 122 US medical schools.
