The Medical Intensive Care unit has many IRB approved research studies. Some of the projects are Fellow/Faculty initated while other studies are multicenter projects overseen by the clinical research center. With oversight by the IRB, families and patients may choose to engage in cutting edge technology for the opportunity to get the most up to date therapies. With the wide diversity of patients that are transferred to Jefferson University Hospital, the projects vary from ARDS, ECMO, Sepsis, shock, and liver outcomes projects.
In order to ensure our commitment to excellence, many quality initiatives grow into reporting of outcomes and can lead to process improvement to improve patient outcome and medical efficiency. There are many tools at Jefferson to enhance this process from the College of Population Science, the hospital QI department, and Informatics to provide database support. All these studies are done in a professional manner that ensures maximal patient safety and confidentiality.
