Message from the Program Director

Welcome and thank you for your interest in our residency training program in the Department of Neurology at Jefferson Medical College.

Neurology at Jefferson has a long and esteemed history. Founded in 1824, Jefferson is proud to be the first division of Neurology in the United States. The chairman, program director, faculty, and staff are uniformly committed to excellence in education, research, and patient care.

The Department of Neurology provides a broad educational approach that promotes clinical and research strengths in general neurology as well as most subspecialties. Over the past 10 years, our department has experienced unprecedented growth, resulting in enhanced education opportunities for residents and fellows. We have centers of excellence in Epilepsy, Headache, Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, and neuromuscular diseases. We have a unique approach to training with rotations based upon these subspecialties. In addition, the new Farber Institute provides an exceptional environment for research in Cognitive Neurology.

Residents rotate through busy clinical services including the university service, epilepsy, headache, multispeciality out-patient clinic, stroke, and Neuro-intensive care unit in the first year of Neurology training. During their senior years, they take advantage of organized rotations in pediatric neurology, neuroradiology, neuro-ophthalmology, neuropathology, various out-patient clinics, EEG, and EMG/Neuromuscular. Rotations are available in movement disorders, psychiatry, neurosurgery, interventional neuroradiology, and others. Research opportunities are tailored to the individual interests of the resident.

Jefferson graduates become expert clinicians with a strong base in research and are life-long members of a tradition of excellence. We look forward to seeing you.

Sincerely,
Christopher Skidmore, MD
