Faculty in the Department of Neuroscience conduct fundamental research in all areas of modern neuroscience, using molecular, cellular, biochemical, genetic, physiological, anatomical and behavioral tools and approaches.  Current research activities include:  molecular studies of ion channel proteins; cellular neurophysiological investigations of neuronal excitability and synaptic transmission; neural stem cells and their therapeutic use in stroke and neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease; molecular genetic analysis of sleep and circadian rhythms; rodent and fly models of neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; and the neurobiology of stress and addiction.  For a description of the research in each department laboratory please see the individual faculty pages.
