The neurosurgery faculty has a deep commitment to advancing their field through research, both at the bench and at the bedside. Faculty members have been published in some of their field’s most prestigious journals, including Stroke, Spine, Orthopedics, The Lancet, Neurosurgery and Neurology. Their research endeavors are supported by the division’s research department, which has recently been restructured by a new director.
This department advances the Jefferson's research mission by:
- Assisting in the design of research protocols.
- Ensuring ongoing compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Identifying, screening and enrolling participants.
- Collecting data throughout the lifespan of the study.
- Tracking enrollees during the study and avoiding any loss to follow up.
- Manage relationships with external organizations.
Jan Jaeger, PhD
Dr. Jaeger started her health care career as an emergency room nurse at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She has worked in research administration and management since 2002. Before joining us in 2014, she most recently worked as the Director of Institutional Review Board Operations at Harvard University. In addition to being the department's research director, Dr. Jaeger is a lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Sociology.
Dr. Jaeger holds a Diploma in Nursing from Cooper Medical Center School of Nursing, a BBA in Healthcare Administration from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, an MBE in Biomedical Ethics from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Medicine and a PhD in Medical Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania.
Meagan Wakefield, RN, BS, CCRP
Clinical Research Nurse
Ms. Wakefield is the department's research nurse. She has responsiblity for direct patient care and will supervise other nurses as they are added. Ms. Wakefield holds a BS in Biobehavioral Health and an AS in Nursing from the Pennsylvania State University. She is a certified research professional.
Kiraki Sereidis, MS
Clinical Research Coordinator
Ms. Sereidis is a research coordinator, currently working on ---. Ms. Sereidis holds a BS in Biology from Drexel University and an MS in Forensic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Mahgenn Cosico, BS
Regulatory Research Coordinator
Ms. Cosico is the regulatory research coordinator for the entire department. She maintains the department's relationship with the IRB, assists in writing and editing protocols, etc. She holds a BS in Biology from Saint Peter's College.
