Philadelphia, PA — Salman Akhtar, MD, Professor of Psychiatry at Thomas Jefferson University has edited a groundbreaking new book called The African American Experience: Psychoanalytic Perspectives. The book fills an important gap in the literature on psychiatry and psychoanalysis. It includes essays on Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Mohammed Ali, Barack Obama, and Oprah Winfrey. Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter released the book at a well-attended celebration held at Jefferson Medical College on September 9, 2012.
