Welcome to the Academic Home Page for the Acute Care Surgery Division of the Department of Surgery. Information specifically geared to patients can be found on the division's Hospital Home Page.

The Acute Care Surgery Division provides expert trauma care, surgical critical care and emergency surgery services at Jefferson, an 800+ bed tertiary academic medical center located in center city Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 

For the past 20 years, Jefferson has been an accredited Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center serving the local center city community and serving as a referral center for the multiple suburban communities and level II trauma centers outside of center city Philadelphia. 

Jefferson also:

  • is a federally designated Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center for the past 30 years
  • is a Hand Injury Center
  • provides multidisciplinary care for patients with spinal cord or hand injuries which includes orthopedic, neurosurgery and rehabilitation medicine specialists
