Bariatric Surgery Fellowship
The Bariatric Surgery Fellowship in the Division of General Surgery within the Department of Surgery is a one-fellow one-year clinical fellowship in an academic setting. This fellowship prepares the trainee to competently and confidently perform laparoscopic bariatric surgery and all related care. There is ample opportunity to complete clinically based research and publication is encouraged. The fellow also gains an understanding of the process of starting a new bariatric program in an academic or non-academic venue. The ultimate goal is to have the graduate excel in practice in the field of bariatric surgery. The ideal candidate will be someone ready to immerse themselves in training and one who shares the same goal of excellence.
The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) have approved Jefferson University Hospitals as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence®.
In addition, the ASMBS and SRC have named David Tichansky, MD, FACS, as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence designee. Dr. Tichansky is director of Jefferson's Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Program and a professor at Jefferson Medical College.
