  • Thursday Conferences (“protected time” – NO PAGERS)  Thursday mornings are dedicated to resident education from 7 A.M. to 11 A.M.  Sessions include weekly M & M conferences, Grand Rounds, didactic lectures, journal clubs, case presentations and other interactive learning sessions. Residents are excused from all patient care responsibilities during these lectures and activities. Pagers are collected and answered by the Education Division secretary of the Department of Surgery.
  • Boards- For the past 10 years, 98 percent of graduating Jefferson surgical residents have passed both the written and oral boards. Of residents who complete Jefferson's surgical program, about 20 percent remain in general surgery and 80 percent seek further specialty training. View Chart
  • Laparoscopic and Simulation Training Laboratory- our Surgical Skills Lab provides residents with the resources to enhance their suturing and knot tying skills as well as to competently perform more advanced laparoscopic skills.
  • Year of Research
    Residents spend one to two years in the laboratory and usually work within one of the laboratories in the Department.
