The administrative staff and faculty of Sidney Kimmel Medical College would like to welcome our new colleagues to the Jefferson community! Various resources are available to assist in the transition to your new position.

The Office of Faculty Affairs offers the following programs to familiarize you with the resources available at Sidney Kimmel Medical College and the opportunities for faculty contribution to the Jefferson community.

  • Individual Orientation session
    You will be invited to meet individually with the Dean's staff in the Office of Faculty Affairs. This information session will review your current appointment as well as guidelines for promotion. Individual career development including establishment of a mentoring relationship and the role of the annual performance assessment will be discussed. Faculty resource materials including the faculty handbook will be provided.
  • Semi-annual Orientation program
    A full-day formal orientation program is offered twice a year for new faculty. Faculty will be introduced to members of the Dean's staff and given an overview of faculty governance and the educational and research programs in operation at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College. In addition, important policies and procedures relevant to faculty will be reviewed. Attendance at this program is considered mandatory for new faculty. The semi-annual orientation programs for academic year 2009-2010 will be held on September 18, 2007, January 27, 2010 and May 13, 2010. The Department of Human Resources of Thomas Jefferson University offers all new employees the opportunity to learn more about Jefferson. This program will be useful to you as a faculty member in several ways including understanding more about the roles and responsibilities of the employees you supervise.

  • New Employee Orientation
    The New Employee Orientation is designed to introduce staff to the mission and values of Jefferson, explain major policies, and describe available benefits, resources and services. During the program participants hear from a senior administrator and several department representatives; view videos on Jefferson's history, compliance, customer service and patient confidentiality; and receive useful materials and information.

    Scheduled orientations are held every Monday from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM in the Training Room 9104 (JeffStat Department) on the 9th floor of 833 Chestnut Street. When Monday is a Jefferson holiday, the orientation is held on Tuesday of that week.

    New employees receive a letter scheduling them for an orientation. To change the scheduled time, contact Jeannine Camperchioli at (215) 503-7758.
  • Benefits
    New Faculty will be contacted by Human Resources shortly after hire for an individual session with a Human Resource counselor to discuss the faculty benefits package. For questions related to Faculty Benefits, contact Human Resources at x3-7858.
  • Your Department
    Contact your department administrator to discuss an individual orientation to your department and your roles and responsibilities within.
  • Housing
    Assistance with housing may be obtained through the Office of Housing and Residence Life. Please contact X5-8913 for assistance. Faculty may also find the Housing Web site helpful.
  • Work-Life Assistance
    Assistance with work-life issues such as day care and elder care can be obtained through Carebridge. For more information, visit Carebridge.
