Accelerated Pathway to the MSN for Second-Degree Prelicensure Students
The Accelerated Pathway to the MSN is designed for students who already hold a bachelor's degree in a field other than nursing. This program allows students to complete a BSN in 27 months of full-time study. Students may then complete the MSN in 15 months. All policies regarding academic achievement, progression in the nursing major and program completion for the prelicensure students apply to Accelerated Pathway students.
Students accepted into this program option are admitted to both the undergraduate and graduate programs. During the program’s undergraduate phase, students earn 55-credits, and an additional 9 graduate credits at JSN. Students are scheduled for theory course content two days per week; and clinical practicum experience 16 hours per week. This schedule allows time to integrate theoretical concepts and constructs into clinical practice. Clinical hours may include evenings and weekends.
Prerequisite Work: Students complete two years or 65 credits of prerequisite coursework in sciences, humanities, and related disciplines that lay the foundation for professional studies in the Professional & Continuing Studies Department at Thomas Jefferson University or at another college or university.
Jefferson Nursing students learn clinical skills in a risk-free, simulated-patient environment that is one of the nation’s leading centers of its kind. Combined with their clinical practice at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, our students graduate with far more hours of clinical experience than is professionally required. Perhaps this is why Jefferson BSN graduates have consistently scored among the highest pass rates on the national licensure examination of all PA professional nursing programs.
At the end of the program, students take the state nursing licensing exam and if successful, select their specialty area in the MSN specialty they wish to pursue.
