Welcome to the School of Nursing

Beth Ann Swan, PhD, CRNP, FAAN

As Jefferson School of Nursing celebrates 120 years of educating nurses, I welcome you to explore our distinguished educational program that combines research and technology with compassionate care.

Perhaps the most distinguishing Jefferson difference is the way we engage students with active problem-based learning within a dynamic interprofessional setting: bringing future nurses together with pharmacists, physicians and therapists to study in the same classrooms and simulated clinical labs. Our students experience real-world nursing and are well prepared to enter the practice world as confident, effective members of an integrated healthcare team. Jefferson is proud to educate respected nurse clinicians.

Jefferson faculty is redefining healthcare education by continuously exploring and adopting new technologies as teaching tools to support and advance how nursing students learn. For example, in 2011 Jefferson became the first school in the U.S. to integrate the Apple® iPad2 into our classrooms, simulation labs and clinical settings at the point of care. I applaud Jefferson School of Nursing’s faculty for using the iPad2 to add yet another energetic dimension to our curriculum by innovatively blending relevant technology into their roles as teachers, clinical instructors, advisors, and mentors.

At Jefferson School of Nursing, we continually focus on ways to enrich the learning experience of our students: our next generation of clinical, education, and research leaders. Our graduates promote and support the Jefferson School of Nursing and Thomas Jefferson University by fostering lifelong engagement with alumni, students and the rest of the Jefferson family.

Thank you for your interest in Jefferson School of Nursing. I invite you to discover the rich learning experience we offer.
