JSN DNP Alumnus Shawana Gray to Present at AWHONN Conference

Shawana Gray, a 2013 graduate of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Jefferson School of Nursing and a resident of Camden, N.J., will present her doctoral research at the 2014 Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) Convention in Orlando, Fla. from June 15-17, 2014.

Gray’s poster title is “Pre-Pregnancy Obesity and Weight Gain during Pregnancy: Relationship to the Development of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus and the Birth of a Large For Gestational Age Neonate.”

Gray explains that literature is incomplete regarding this topic. “By understanding how weight gain in pregnancy impacts the development of these conditions, more effective and improved methods of education may be created and facilitated in clinical practices,” she says.

AWHONN is a nonprofit organization that promotes the health of women and newborns. It represents 180,000 nurses and health care professionals with more than 24,000 members in the U.S. Read more about AWHONN here.
