On June 29, 2017, the Cedars Villages affordable housing site was recognized with a Best Practice Award by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency for their partnership with Jefferson College of Pharmacy (JCP).  This award highlights the healthy living programs presented to the residents of Cedars Village by first year JCP student pharmacists.

Each academic semester, JCP student pharmacists enrolled in their Healthcare Related Service- Learning course provide presentations to the Cedars Village senior citizen residents on topics such as preventative healthcare, medication adherence, blood pressure measurement, and nutrition.  Pharmacist preceptor Dr. Evan White oversees this program.

In applying for this award, Property Social Services Coordinator, Nicol McClarin, emphasized the mutual benefit of this ongoing program.  The partnership provides JCP student pharmacists the opportunity to gain valuable experience educating and communicating with the Cedars Village seniors as they directly apply the knowledge they are learning in their pharmacy coursework.  The seniors benefit from the knowledge gained and personal interactions that result from their participation in these activities.  Both partners benefit from the ongoing relationships cultivated as the semester progresses.

Cedars Villages is a part of the Ingerman Management Company.

The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) works to provide affordable homeownership and rental apartment options for senior adults, low- and moderate-income families, and people with special housing needs.  PHFA’s Housing Services Best Practice Awards program is designed to identify and honor service coordination programs that have demonstrated best practices in developing, deploying and maintaining service programs.
