Welcome to Jefferson School of Population Health Web Application for the PhD in Population Health Sciences

We are happy that you have decided to apply to JSPH!

Applying online is fast and convenient.  In order to apply online, you must have a valid credit card (Visa or MasterCard only).

Follow the instructions below.  If you have any questions, please call (215) 503-5305 and we’ll be glad to help you.

There are TWO steps in the application process:

  1. Completing the online application (instructions are below) and
  2. Completing the self-managed application (instructions are also below).

We suggest that you print out these instructions and refer to them as you complete the process.

1. Online Application Instructions

  • If this is your first Jefferson online application, select the “first time user account creation” option on the opening page of the application.  You can create a Login ID or have the computer generate one for you.  You may choose any six-digit number for your PIN, but please be sure to write it down.  TJU cannot access your PIN number if you forget it. Otherwise, enter your previously created Login ID and PIN.

    Login ID:   _______________    PIN#:   ________________

  • Once you begin the application, there is a 5-minute inactivity timeout.  This means that if you do not use the system for 5 minutes, you will be prompted to re-enter your Login ID and PIN to continue with the application.
  • You will be asked to choose an “Application Type” from the menu.  Select the following:  Population Health Sciences (PhD).
  • All the sections of the application that apply to you will be listed with either a RED or BLUE icon.  All of the RED icons must be completed.  While we prefer that you complete the BLUE icons so that we can better serve you in the application process, these items are optional.
  • Instructions are at the top of each screen to help you complete it properly.  Please be sure to read them before starting that section.
  • When entering information, do not use all capital or lower case letters.
  • When entering a date in any section of the application, please use this format: MM/DD/YYYY, including backslashes (/).
  • When you complete all the sections, be sure to check the “Application Complete” box before you click “Submit Application.”  If you do not check the “Application Complete” box, we will not be able to download your application.
  • After the application is completed, you will be asked to provide your credit card number and expiration date to pay the application fee.  If you do not have a valid credit card, we will not be able to download your application.

B. Letters of Recommendation

You can download recommendation forms here, or your recommenders can prepare a reference on their letterhead which you will include in the single, large envelope. • Recommendation Forms or letters must include your name and address.  Be sure your recommender includes your name and address if he or she submits a reference on letterhead.
  • Prepare a self-addressed stamped envelope for your recommender to return the letter to you.

  • Recommendation letters received with broken seals will be returned to the applicant.

You will will need to submit GRE information from tests that have been taken within the past five (5) years.

Do not include the scores in the self-managed application envelope!

An official, original copy of your GRE scores (GRE code = 5750) should be sent by ETS directly to Jefferson School of Population Health.

Please use the online application to submit a personal statement of approximately 700 words that a) addresses your reasons for applying to the PhD program in Population Health Sciences, b) presents your educational and professional goals, and c) describes any personal research experience that is relevant to population health. This statement should include evidence of a demonstrated commitment to population health, either through education, work or volunteer experience.
