From the President

As members of the Thomas Jefferson University community, we are united in our commitment to achieve the University's goals of quality health care, health professions education and international health-related research. What the University accomplishes will be measured not just by the goals we achieve, but also by the means by which such achievements are attained. The increasingly complex nature of our activities, both within our University community and in the interrelated national and global health care environment, have created the need for common community standards at Thomas Jefferson University.

In this regard, the University has established the Thomas Jefferson University Code of Conduct. Because the actions of each of us reflect upon the whole, we must rely on the individual judgment and personal ethical and moral standards of each member of the Jefferson community in order to maintain the University's collective standards of honesty and integrity. The Code of Conduct provides a "common language" of such standards which we all share. The principles set forth herein provide the foundation for the actions we take and the decisions we make in furtherance of our goals while upholding the laws and regulations and the standards of ethics in our community and our professions.

Each of us must read the Code of Conduct carefully and remember to integrate its principles into our daily University activities. The Code is not a static list of rules, but is a dynamic document which provides the basic guidance by which we seek to achieve the highest ethical and professional standards and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Because the University will be defined by our actions, it is the personal responsibility of each of us to learn and uphold our University standards.

Robert L. Barchi, M.D., Ph.D.
President
