Thomas Jefferson University Hospital
Established in 1825, Thomas Jefferson University
Hospital is one of the country's oldest
and most respected academic institutions. Jefferson is a
707-bed teaching hospital and is among the largest medical
centers in the Philadelphia area. It also provides a NCI
designated Kimmel Cancer Center . The Urology department
has dedicated endourology suites, a TUMT unit and the state
of the art MIS/Laparoscopy suites. Thomas Jefferson University
includes the Medical College, The college of Graduate Studies
and The College of Allied Health.
Wilmington Veterans Administration Medical Center
The
Wilmington VA Medical & Regional Office Center combines
a 57 bed hospital and 60 bed NHCU, both
accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation
of Health Care Organizations. Wilmington
VAMROC is also a certified community Cancer
Center. Wilmington serves veterans from
the state of Delaware, southern New Jersey, southeastern
Pennsylvania, and eastern shore of Maryland.
Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children
The Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children
is a full service 180 bed children's hospital
located in Wilmington Delaware. With over 100 full- time
pediatricians and subspecialists and a community-based medical
and surgical staff of 250, the hospital has evolved from
a small orthopedic facility into a tertiary referral center
for pediatrics. The Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children
is a fully accredited, non-profit teaching facility. This
pediatric hospital is the academic partner of Thomas Jefferson
University and the pediatric provider to the Jefferson Health System
and its members and affiliates.
Bryn Mawr Hospital
Established in 1893 by Dr. George S. Gerhard,
Bryn Mawr Hospital is a full service community
acute-care teaching hospital. It has a history of more than
a century for providing a high level of personalized care
by exceptional physicians, surgeons and nursing staff in
both inpatient and outpatient settings. Bryn Mawr is a member
of the Jefferson Health System and serves as a major teaching
affiliate of the Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson
University in Philadelphia.
Informational Resources
Medical libraries are available at all rotation sites. The most noted is Jefferson University. This library houses more than 150,000 volumes, 1,700 journal titles and its JEFFLINE computer link to 10 other major libraries. Full Internet access and university email capabilities are also available to all residents. The Department of Urology has an educational urologic library, where residents have full access to basic urologic texts, journals and multimedia focused on improving resident studies.
