Leonard G. Gomella, M.D.

Dr. Leonard Gomella , the Bernard W. Godwin
Jr. Professor, joined the faculty in 1988.
He was named Chairman of the Department
of Urology in 2002. He completed a two-year
fellowship in Urologic Oncology at the
National Cancer Institute. Presently Dr.
Gomella is Director of Urologic Oncology for the Kimmel Cancer
Center. His main areas of interest include basic science and
clinical research into molecular, biologic and immune aspects
of both bladder and prostate cancer and longstanding commitment
to urologic laparoscopy and imaging of the urinary tract.
Dr. Demetrius Bagley is currently Professor
of Urology and Radiology and currently the second faculty bestowed
as the Nathan Lewis Hatfield Professor of Urology. He completed
a three-year fellowship in the Surgery Branch of the National
Cancer Institute. Dr. Bagley has been at Thomas Jefferson University
since 1983 and has been a pioneer in the area of ureteroscopy.
His academic interests predominantly involve endourology.
Dr. P. Kenneth Brownstein completed residency
training in urology at TJUH. He currently
has a wide array of urologic interests and a broad urologic
practice, including the treatment of genitourinary malignancy,
prostatic diseases, and urolithiasis.
Dr. Leonard Frank completed his urology residency
at Jefferson Medical College..and serves as Director of Medical
Sudent Education in Urology as well as Director of Resident's
Clinic.
Dr. Deborah Glassman completed residency training
at the University of Maryland in 2001. She was a faculty member
at Maryland before joining Jefferson in 2002. Her interests
include general urology and laparoscopic surgery.
Dr. Larry Goldstein completed his residency
at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Irvin Hirsch, after completing a fellowship
in impotence and infertility at Baylor
Medical College in Houston, Texas, joined
the Department in 1985 and is Clinical
Professor. Dr. Hirsch is actively involved
in the clinical practice of andrology. His clinical and laboratory
fertility research primarily involves work with spinal cord
injured patients. Dr. Hirsch is also involved with protocols
for medical management of BPH and integrative urology.
Dr. Scott Hubosky, after completing his residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and a Laparoscopy/Endourology Fellowship at Eastern Virginia Medical College, joined the department in July 2006. His main areas of interest include endourology, laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery and robotic surgery.
Dr. Max Koppel completed his residency at
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital . He obtained his MBA from
Penn State University and a MPH from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Costas Lallas completed residency training
at Duke University and then went on to complete a laparoscopy/endourology
fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Dr. Jeanne V. Llenado served her urology residency
at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Stratford, New Jersey.
Dr. S. Grant Mulholland is currently Professor Emeritus. He had been the Nathan
Lewis Hatfield Professor of Urology and
served 25 years as Chairman of the Department of Urology.
Dr. Patrick Shenot completed
fellowship training in Neurourology at
Jefferson in 1999. His area of expertise
is neurourology, voiding dysfunction, urodynamics
and reconstruction. Dr. Shenot is involved
in basic science research into neurogenic lower
urinary tract dysfunction using a rat model
of spinal cord injury and clinical research
of both devices and pharmacotherapy for
voiding dysfunction.
Dr. Edouard Trabulsi completed his
urology residency at Jefferson in 2001
and then proceeded to complete a two year
urologic oncology fellowship at Memorial
Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He was promoted to Associate Professorin the Spring of 2008. His main
interests lie in oncology, emphasizing
laparoscopic techniques.

Dr. Frank and Medical Students

Dr. Perry R. Weiner is
the Chief of Urology at the Methodist Hospital.
He received his urology training at Hospital
of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic
Medicine.
PEDIATRIC UROLOGY
Dr. T. Ernesto Figueroa completed
his urology residency at Tulane university
hospital and a fellowship in pediatric
urology at the Children's Hospital of Michigan
, followed by an academic appointment at
the University of South Florida. Dr. Figueroa
is currently Director of Pediatric Urology
at A.I. duPont Institute, and conducts
basic laboratory research in bladder physiology,
in addition to his clinical work in reconstructive
pediatric genitourinary surgery.
Dr. Julia Barthold completed
her urology residency at Northwestern university
and a fellowship in pediatric urology at
Wayne State University/Children's Hospital
of Michigan in 1989. Dr. Barthold has a
strong interested in basic science research
of congenital anomalies and especially
cryptorchidism, currently serving as Director
of Research in Urology at the A.I. duPont
Institute. In addition to her significant
research efforts, Dr. Barthold is contributing
to an ongoing expansion of the delivery
of clinical pediatric urology care throughout
the A.I. duPont Institute.
Dr. Ricardo Gonzalez completed
residency at the University of Minnesota
and post-residency training in Pediatric
Urology at Boston Children's Hospital.
Dr. Gonzalez is a pioneer in the treatment
of pediatric urinary incontinence.
UROLOGY RESEARCH
Dr. Andrea Morrione, is
a Research Assistant Professor
and is
the Director of Urological Research for
the department as wll as a member of the Kimmel Cancer Center.
His research focuses on the multiple role
of the Insulin-like Growth Factor Receptor
1 and its partners play in the development
of genitourinary malignancies.
Dr. Dolores Shupp-Byrne, is
a Research Assistant Professor in Urology.
She received her doctorate from the University
of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine and
followed with a postdoctoral fellow at
TJU in the Department of Biochemistry.
Dr. Shupp-Byrne is involved in the basic
science research of neurogenic lower urinary
tract dysfunction, infection, and interstitial
cystitis.
