Urology Residency Training Program
We are pleased to accounce that a DaVinci Robotic system is
now in place at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and will
be utilized in many rotations during the four-year urology residency
program. Residents will also have the opportunity to train with
Dr. David McGinnis in robotic surgery at Lankenau Hospital during
their six-month Bryn Mawr rotation.

Salary and Benefits
Annual housestaff salaries range from $41,500 to $49,000.
Uniform and laundry services are available through the House
Staff Office, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital . On-call
rooms are assigned to urology house staff so residents may sleep
in the hospital when they have night duty. All meals are provided
for residents while on call in house.
Hospitalization benefits, including Blue Cross, Blue Shield
and Major Medical for the house officer,
his/her spouse and children, are provided
at no charge. The House Staff may elect to join an approved
HMO as an alternative. Other benefits include life and disability
insurance, travel and accident insurance which cover the house
staff when he/she is traveling on Jefferson business. Vision
Care and Dental Care programs are benefits that are offered
to all members of the house staff following one year of employment.

Numerous apartments and small homes are available in the neighborhood,
and both Pennsylvania and New Jersey suburbs
are readily accessible via an excellent
transportation system. On campus housing
options are available through the Department

Courses and Conferences
The residents will receive compensation for
the registration and travel expenses for conferences at which
they are presenting original research, whenever possible.
Vacation
Residents receive 4 weeks of vacation per
year.

The Department of Urology has designed both
didactic and group participation conferences to enhance and
encourage resident education. Conferences held weekly include:
- Pre-operative Conference
- Residents Didactic Conference
- Pathology Conference
- Clinical Research Protocol Conference
- Basic Science Conference
- Kimmel Cancer Center – Genitourinary Multidisciplinary

- Grand Rounds
- Teaching Rounds
Attending physicians in each subspecialty moderates all conferences
and residents are required to participate. All affiliated resident
programs have their own independent conference schedules for
the rotating resident.
Informational Resources
Medical libraries are available at all rotation
sites. The most noted is Jefferson University.
This library houses more than 150,000 volumes,
1,700 journal titles and its JEFFLINE computer
link to 10 other major libraries. Full
Internet access and university email capabilities
are also available
to all residents. The Department
of Urology has an educational urologic
library, where residents have full access
to basic urologic texts, journals and multimedia
focused on improving resident studies.
