Six BSN JSN students, Doris Anachuna, Sofia Carreno, Annie Lee, Shawn McBride, Erica McNealey and Angel Ramos, were selected as Independence Blue Cross (IBC) Interns and served for the summer of 2011. IBC criteria for selection included being a nursing student in an accredited institution, completion of a clinical rotation and being in good academic standing. Each intern was assigned to a community clinic in the area or to a department within IBC. One of the students, Erica McNealey, worked with Delaware Valley Community Health, a non-profit organization that provides health care services in the region. During her time, she was assigned a nurse preceptor who taught her how to perform various tasks, including helping the medical assistants while teaching about her role as a nurse educator.
