Richard C. Gozon Named Interim President of Thomas Jefferson University

Richard C. Gozon has been appointed Interim President of Thomas Jefferson University (TJU), beginning July 1, 2012 and ending June 30, 2013, announced David R. Binswanger, TJU Board Chairman.

A University trustee since 2003, Gozon has served on the Board’s Executive Committee, the Audit and Compliance Committee and Chair of the Finance Committee. He most recently served as an Executive Vice President of Weyerhaeuser Company and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of AmerisourceBergen Corporation and lead director for the Triumph Group, Inc.

“Dick’s capable leadership and management skills both in the public sector and at Jefferson make him uniquely qualified to serve in this role as we search for a permanent President,” said Binswanger. “He is a thoughtful and respected executive who has worked closely with the University’s academic, clinical and administrative leadership during his board tenure.”

“I look forward to working with the talented University leadership team that Bob Barchi has assembled, along with our colleagues across the hospital and health system,” said Gozon. “Together we can advance Jefferson’s academic, research and clinical missions for future success.”

In July 2011, Robert L. Barchi, MD, PhD, announced his decision to step down as President of TJU on June 30, 2012. Recruitment of a permanent president will begin in September 2012.
