Dr. David Oxman just published a new study in JAMA Surgery. This is a PC, DB, randomized trial examining the utility of “prophylactic” antibiotics for 48 hrs in elective post-thoracotomy patients with a chest tube; the key finding is that the antibiotics were no better than placebo;
