Crimes against persons, such as robbery, assault, and sexual assault, are a particular concern of the College. Here are some basic precautions:
- Think ahead - be prepared. A crime can occur any time.
- Be alert and walk purposely. Confidence deters attackers.
- Carry a personal alarm, or be prepared to scream loudly if attacked.
- Take a self-defense course! Contact William Thygeson listed above!
- If you choose to walk, do so with others, along well-lighted, well-traveled routes and streets.
- If someone follows you, change direction and go to a place where there are other people.
- When socializing, don't drink too much - keeping a clear head makes it easier to make wise decisions when it comes to personal safety.
- Learn the locations of the emergency blue light telephones which are placed throughout campus. (See the map below.) Do not hesitate to use them to summon a campus safety Officer.
