Educational Programs

The Department of Cancer Biology believes strongly in developing the next generation of diverse cancer researchers. Our faculty provide a nurturing, multi-modal, and dynamic training environment designed to ensure our trainees are poised for future success, whatever their career goals may be.  In addition to mentoring trainees in the laboratories, our faculty also teach in multiple graduate programs, formal PhD courses, resident and fellow medical education, and JeffMD.  Goal-oriented approaches facilitate increased productivity and career advancement for our trainees. Of note, the department holds a prestigious National Institute of Health/National Cancer Institute T32 training grant in Cancer Biology that supports both graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

Graduate Students

The Department of Cancer Biology serves as the home of the Genetics, Genomics, & Cancer Biology graduate school program in the Jefferson College of Life Sciences. Additionally, the department mentors both Masters and PhD students from multiple graduate school programs in the Jefferson College of Life Sciences.

Faculty welcome and encourage rotations from first year graduate students.

Postdoctoral Fellows

The Department of Cancer Biology provides a comprehensive and interactive environment for postdoctoral fellows.  Research development and individual growth are promoted and encouraged within the department through multiple mechanisms.  It is our goal to help postdoctoral fellows grow into the next generation of independent researchers. In addition to the department, Thomas Jefferson University is home to a robust and active Postdoctoral Fellow Association.
