Welcome from the Program Directors

Thank you for your interest in our Addiction Psychiatry & Addiction Medicine Fellowships.

As you well know, people experiencing addiction face enormous personal and societal challenges to reclaim their lives and health. Compassionate, highly skilled addiction physician specialists can make an enormous positive impact on this population. The Addiction Psychiatry & Addiction Medicine Fellowships at Sidney Kimmel Medical College provide an opportunity to train in an environment known for clinical excellence, innovative community-based research, and a commitment to improving the experience of care for highly stigmatized populations.

Our Addiction Psychiatry & Addiction Medicine Fellowships received ACGME certification in 2020. Addiction psychiatry and addiction medicine are both subspecialties recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).

  • Our Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship is available to physicians who have or will be have completed an ACGME-approved residency in psychiatry. Those who successfully complete the Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship and hold a primary certification in psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) will be eligible to sit for the Addiction Psychiatry certification exam offered though the ABPN.
  • Our Addiction Medicine Fellowship is available to physicians who have or will have completed a residency in any ABMS recognized primary specialty. Those who successfully complete the Addiction Medicine Fellowship and hold any ABMS primary certification will be eligible to sit for the Addiction Medicine certification exam offered though the American Board of Preventative Medicine (ABPM).

Our parallel programs capitalize on the strengths and many areas of overlap in psychiatric and medical approaches to addiction treatment, while honoring key distinctions through a variety of elective experiences

We invite you to learn more about our fellowships. If you have any questions about our programs, please do not hesitate to contact us.
