Canadian Maritimes

Canadian Maritimes
July 19-28, 2019

Spend 10 days discovering the stunning beauty, history, and people of the Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. Experience the vast beauty, sprawling landscapes, charming towns, and welcoming locals. A rich fishing history and strong maritime traditions allow these communities the ability to trace their heritage back to European colonists of 1605.

First explore beautiful Halifax—Nova Scotia's bustling capital—during a panoramic city tour including visits to the Citadel National Historic Site and Fairview Cemetery, the final resting place for 150 victims of the Titanic. During a tour of the south shore, admire the stunning landscape of Lunenburg—a charming fishing village and one of only two towns in North America designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue to Peggy’s Cove to see its famous lighthouse.

En route to Digby, stop at the national historic site of Grand-Pré—which commemorates the area as the center of Acadian settlement from 1682 to 1755. Set out on a panoramic city tour of Saint John, a charming port city on the Bay of Fundy, which is one of the Seven Wonders of North America due to its tide differential and geological treasures like fossils and minerals. And experience Tea with Eleanor on Campobello Island and learn how Eleanor Roosevelt and her family impacted this quaint area.

Activity Level:  Easy

The majority of the program’s activities will take place outdoors and a fair amount of walking on varying terrain is to be expected. It is our expectation that guests on this program are able to walk a mile at a moderate pace, get in and out of a motor coach, and walk up a flight of stairs without assistance.

Learn surprising details about animal behavior, glacier activity, and the wealth of natural spectacles along these protected waters. Learn about Alaska's culture and living history during a Native dance performance at a Tlingit Clan House and from a Native Huna Tlingit Cultural Heritage Guide at Glacier Bay National Park.

Visit a salmon hatchery, the Alaska Raptor Center, and Sitka National Historical Park, and take a guided tour of the Norwegian fishing community of Petersburg. Joined by a Park Ranger, cruise the pristine waters of Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve to see the sanctuary’s deep fjords, tidewater glaciers, and snow-capped mountain ranges.

Activity Level: Easy

This program offers a variety of activities: skiff rides, walking, hiking, and kayaking. Activities are not strenuous for guests with average mobility. Walks and hikes are leisurely in pace to allow guests the opportunity to see and learn as much as possible about the region. Skiffs provide the mode for much of the exploration on this program and sure-footed guests can enter/exit them with little trouble. The Admiralty Dream crew is diligent in assisting guests while boarding and exiting the ship and small craft. Guests with no previous experience can easily handle the double kayaks. We expect that guests on this program can walk with good balance and go up and down stairs easily without assistance, as the ship does not have an elevator.

Galapagos Islands

Galapagos Islands
October 16 – October 23, 2019

Explore the Galapagos Islands—one of the most biologically unique places on earth. Undiscovered by Europeans until the 16th century, the Galapagos Islands hold a central position in modern history as the birthplace of the theory of evolution. Designated the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978, the Galapagos Islands are home to a fascinating array of wildlife inhabiting an unspoiled ecosystem, living in harmony with their human visitors.

This exciting journey features a day of guided touring in Quito plus an intimate cruise through the archipelago with up-close access to endemic species. Expert naturalists guide you through the wonders of this national park, whale sanctuary, and marine reserve.

Each island in this volcanic archipelago hosts species that are exquisitely adapted to the available food sources and surrounding environments: the marine iguana, which eats mostly algae and is the only sea-going lizard in the world, and the Galapagos tortoises—some species of which were hunted to the brink of extinction by 18th- and 19th century whalers. You can also observe how species have evolved to interact with each other—certain Darwin's finches have developed a symbiotic relationship with land iguanas, who will obligingly raise themselves up from the ground so that the birds can more easily pluck parasites from their bellies. Because the human presence is still relatively minimal, many of the animals are remarkably unafraid of visitors.

Your accommodations for this adventure are aboard Isabela II, a 40-guest vessel with spacious cabins, local cuisine, and a staff dedicated to ensuring both your comfort and maximum enjoyment of this truly extraordinary destination and its diverse inhabitants.

Activity Level:  Moderate

Guests should be sure-footed on stairs and able to walk at least one mile on rocky, volcanic, and uneven ground, as some nature hikes will be on irregular and steep terrain. Guests should also be comfortable managing beach landings and boarding small vessels, both from shore and the deck of the Isabela II. Also keep in mind that you will experience varying altitudes, to which you may not be accustomed.  Maximum elevation: 9,350 feet in Quito, Ecuador
