Jeff IT Windows 7 & Office 2010
After April 8, 2014, Windows XP will become end-of-life and Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or technical support for the Windows XP operating system. Jefferson computers running Windows XP after April 8, 2014 may be exposed to the following risks:
Security - Without critical Windows XP security updates, your Jefferson computers may become vulnerable to harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software which can steal or damage your business data and information. Anti-virus software will also not be able to fully protect you once Windows XP itself is unsupported.
Availability –There will be a significantly increased chance that Windows XP computers will become unavailable due to a virus or technical issue unsupported by Microsoft. Migrating to Windows 7 is an important step to avoid unpredictable, and possibly extended downtime.
Compliance - Businesses that are governed by regulatory obligations such as HIPAA may find that they are no longer able to satisfy compliance requirements.
Hardware Manufacturer Support - Most PC hardware manufacturers will stop supporting Windows XP on existing and new hardware. This will also mean that drivers required to run Windows XP on new hardware may not be available.
You are STRONGLY encouraged to replace or upgrade your Windows XP device(s) by April 8th. Failure to do so may result in your device becoming subject to the risks described above, in which case we may have no other option but to disconnect your device from the Jefferson network.
Jeff IT is currently reviewing all devices on campus and each department will be sent a list of computers that will be affected, as well as additional instructions.
Jeff IT will continue to provide assistance for currently supported applications; however, it is the responsibility of the client to confirm Windows 7 Professional 64-bit compatibility for any application that falls outside of Jeff IT standard support. Jeff IT recommends that you begin planning for Windows 7 and Office 2010 immediately.
