Community Service Opportunities

Hands of Hope

Hands of Hope is a student-run organization currently designed to provide physical therapy and fitness services to homeless individuals in Philadelphia under the supervision of licensed physical therapists. Every Tuesday evening during the semester, Physical Therapy students assess, treat and provide consultation to residents. Medical students partner with them to provide much-needed medical services. Students organize several fundraisers throughout the year to raise funds for vital exercise equipment and supplies.

Making Strides for Breast Cancer

Making Strides for Breast Cancer is a walk sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Students and faculty raise monies for the team "PT Cruisers and Friends" and participate in the walk in October of each year.

Camp Susquehanna

Camp Susquehanna is a four-day, overnight camp for children, 7-17 years of age, who have sustained severe burn injuries. Camp is held at Millersville University, in scenic, rural Pennsylvania starting Thursday of the last full week in June. Programmed activities vary with each camp but always include swimming, games, arts and crafts, fun and character building activities including workshops on learning new coping skills. Volunteer staff members include professional medical personnel, adult burn survivors, physical and occupational therapy students and trained volunteers. Student volunteers play and work with campers individually and in groups.
