The Physician Assistant Studies - Center City Program prepares you as a leader in health care and human services, and to use your advanced expertise to translate your knowledge and skills into evidence-based, innovative medical practice.

A Physician Assistant (PA) is a nationally-certified, state licensed healthcare provider who practices under the supervision of a physician. PAs provide a large range of medical and surgical services and can be found in almost every healthcare setting. Under physician supervision, PAs conduct physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic tests, diagnose and treat illnesses, provide patient counseling, assist in the operating room and prescribe medications.

PAs can be found in physician offices, hospitals, operating rooms, long-term care facilities, emergency rooms and trauma centers. PAs practice in all areas of medicine including pediatrics, family medicine, internal medicine, general surgery and surgical subspecialties, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynecology.

Students are awarded a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS) degree upon successful completion of our Program.

Why Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University)?

Philadelphia’s rich culture of medical education coupled with our long-established history of educating outstanding healthcare providers makes the Center City Campus an ideal setting for continuing education in the PA profession.

JCHP’s focus on interprofessional collaboration and curriculum innovation ensure that students are prepared to be successful clinicians who can influence healthcare and impact public health. As part of an academic health center, students have opportunities to learn side-by-side with medical, nursing and other healthcare students. One example is participation in the Health Mentors Program, which teams students with patients who have chronic health problems for a two-year relationship.
