Thomas Jefferson University

Check Out

All students will recieve an email with their approved termination date set by the Office of Residential Life. This will be the date you indidcated in your 2020-2021 Termination Application.

You may check out at the front desk by handing in your keys. You must be present while checking out and handing in your keys. Please note that you will be financially responsible for your space through the termination date.

The Office of Residential Life is ensuring that the check-out process aligns with the university’s efforts to minimize any spread of the coronavirus. Our hopes in reducing the density of social encounters and practicing social distancing will provide students and their families flexibility in making necessary arrangements.

If for any reason you may not be able to check-out on or before your scheduled date please contact our office as soon as possible so that we can work with you directly.

Security Deposit Refunds

If you are a student living in Barringer or Orlowitz and would like to change the address you listed in your termination application, please email jiml@pmcpropertygroup.com. Your last month’s utilities bill will be deducted from your security deposit. PMC will mail your deposit refund to the address you provided in the application. It will take approximately 6-8 weeks after your check-out date. If you would like to request a check-out inspection please contact Jim Leinenbach, the Property Manager at jiml@pmcpropertygroup.com.

Temporary Parking

You may request a temporary two-hour parking pass from the front desk for check-out. Please be sure not to park on the street, the passes are only for the loading zones behind the residence halls. Parking passes will only be distributed to students on the day you are checking out of the residence halls.

Storage

Thomas Jefferson University does not provide summer storage; one local company is Mr. Storage. Students are welcomed to contact them via their website: https://www.mrstorages.com/. Students must make their own arrangements with the company for pickup and delivery.

Safety & Security

The potential for thefts and other security problems increase during finals as students are checking out.  Remember that it is important to keep your room locked at all times and to never leave valuable personal belongings unattended in your car or room.  It is important to be continuously aware of the need to be security conscious during this time.  Report all suspicious behavior to the Thomas Jefferson Public Safety at 215-955-8888 and follow-up with a Residential Life Staff member.

In order to continue social distancing measures, we ask that you do not have more than two friends or family members assist you in moving out. If more than two guests are present to assist you in moving out, the Front Desk clerks will ask your extra guests not to enter the residence halls. This applies to ALL students moving out of the residence halls regardless of the day you choose to check-out.

Trash

Please clean up any trash in your unit, take trash out to the dumpsters and clean your refrigerator.  Students will be assessed a damage fee to discard non-university furniture or if your room or apartment requires extra cleaning.  Charges will be deducted from your security deposit.  Recycling bins should be used for paper waste, glass, cans and plastic.

Please be sure to remove all items in your refrigerators, cabinets, closets etc.  In addition, it is your responsibility to remove bedding, including frames and box springs.  These also need to be either thrown in the dumpster provided Barringer or Orlowitz or taken with them.  Any mattresses, frames, box springs or large furniture found in the hallways, freight elevators or trash rooms will result in damage charges for the entire floor to cover the cost of the removal. Overused trash rooms will prevent daily trash from being accessible to be removed.

Room Inspection

The room will be inspected after the final roommate has moved out and any damages will be assessed by the Property Manager for the apartments or the Assistant Director of Housing Operations for Martin Hall. Please be sure to leave your space clean and in an orderly fashion before you check-out.

Elevators

Elevators in all residence halls will be available on a first come first served basis. ORL will not take reservations for any elevator usage.

Carts

Carts are available at all front desks to be signed out at the front desk for check-out purposes.
