Ashwini Sharan Named President of the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS)

Ashwini Sharan, MD, FACS, Professor of Neurological Surgery and Neurology, was named the president of the North American Neuromodulation Society after serving as President Elect for the past year.

Dr. Sharan, who heads Jefferson’s functional neurosurgery program, is an international expert on neuromodulation.  In addition to his busy conventional spine surgery practice, Dr. Sharan routinely places deep brain stimulators, spinal cord stimulators and intrathecal pumps, occipital and vagal nerve stimulators and performs a wide range of epilepsy procedures, including resections, ablations and placement of responsive neurostimulators.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Sharan is the director of Jefferson’s neurosurgery residency and a noted researcher.  He has held three NIH grants and has been published in Neurology, Neurosurgery and Epilepsia, among many others.    

Dr. Sharan has held a variety of leadership roles within NANS.  As president, he will lead the multidisciplinary group, which promotes “collaboration among clinicians, scientists, engineers, and others to advance neuromodulation through education, research, innovation and advocacy.”
