Research Elective in Obstetrics & Gynecology

Objectives & Goals

  • Students will learn the basics of study design
  • Students will be able to apply research concepts to project design, completion and presentation
  • Students will design, complete and present (both oral and written form) a research project within the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

This four week elective will occur within the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Students may apply to the department for acceptance in this elective. Students will be assigned a research mentor to work with individually prior to start of the elective. Students will choose a project with their mentor for completion during the elective. Faculty will be expected to mentor students to the completion of their project. In order to complete their project within the duration of the elective, students must have completed IRB training, HIPPA, and COI prior to the rotation. Applications for IRB approval are expected prior to starting the elective. Students will meet weekly with the course director for further didactics in study design and completion. Students will be evaluated based on their achievement in the domains of professionalism (ie integrity, initiative, and reliability), fund of knowledge ( ie understanding of process of research completion) and skill (the quality of their final presentation).

Students will be required to do an oral presentation at the conclusion of the block and submit a written presentation for peer review prior to grade submission.
