Thomas Jefferson University

Sports Medicine

This fellowship provides a fully-integrated approach to the diagnosis and management of the full spectrum of athletic injuries.

This fellowship is designed to provide the most thorough clinical, surgical, academic and research experience in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of injuries occurring in the full spectrum of sports.

The Thomas Jefferson University Sports Medicine Fellowship Program is based at the Rothman Orthopaedic Instiute located in Center City Philadelphia, as well as at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Lankenau, Nazareth, Riddle Memorial Hospitals in the Suburban Philadelphia region and AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Southern NJ. The fellows work with twelve sports medicine fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeons in addition to three fellowship trained primary care sports medicine physicians. This allows for a well-rounded sports medicine educational program.

The fellow is involved in the pre-participation screening of athletes at the professional, collegiate and high College levels. Surgical experience includes the full breadth of arthroscopic and open treatment of hip, knee, shoulder, and elbow problems, as well as arthroplasty of the knee and shoulder. The fellow is involved with the management of the athlete in the clinic, on the athletic field, and in the operating room.  The sports medicine fellowship is among the most comprehensive in the country and the only fellowship to provide care for all 4 major professional sports teams.
