Dr. Adam Dicker, Enterprise Senior Vice President, Professor and Chair, Department of Radiation Oncology, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Nicole Simone to the position of Vice Chair of Research, Department of Radiation Oncology. 

Dr. Simone is the Margaret Q. Landenberger Professor, Leader of the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center's (SKCC) Cancer Risk and Control Program, and Radiation Director of the Jefferson Breast Care Center. 

Her responsibility is to oversee all research efforts conducted in the department, chair the monthly departmental research committee, work with SKCC leadership to coordinate all research supporting staff, lead review of applications for internal funding, mentor residents and junior level researchers, and support clinical trial efforts, among other assignments.

Dr. Simone, board-certified in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology, studies the effect of combining a healthy diet with standard therapies to try and optimize cancer outcomes. She incorporates the knowledge gained in the laboratory into patient care when appropriate. She also participates in institutional and national clinical trials to help bring state-of-the-art cancer care to her patients. In particular, she has studied the long term toxicity associated with radiation in breast cancer and is currently studying novel methods to treat patients to protect their heart and lungs.
